About: I found this image in the Calle 30 Canal where I’ve found a number of other images over the years. It’s one of the largest canals in the city; the 10 foot walls are made of smooth concrete. In Colombia a common honorific for man is ‘caballero’ or horseman, which is roughly equivalent to gentleman in English. This painting stood out because it was quite old and there were no other paintings encroaching on its space; it had obviously been left untouched out of deference to its presence: a surrealist paean to Colombian horse culture on an acid green field. As I looked at the images, it seemed that this one too wanted to be a ‘scroll’ (a narrow scroll-like vertical rectangle).
